Greatest Zoo trip EVER

Last Thursday I had a zoo trip tentatively scheduled for sometime in the afternoon. Then, as usual, any agenda I had quickly deteriorated as the day progressed. Preston napped until almost 3:30 (the zoo closes at 4:30), and when he finally woke up, I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, and finally said, screw it, let's go anyway. I figured it would atleast be a good way to break up the afternoon, even if we were only there for 45 minutes. Well, did we hit the jackpot. Apparently, the zoo people have decided that 15 minutes before the zoo closes is a good time to feed all the animals. So, not only did we witness a few feedings, EVERY single animal was active, and for the most part, pacing at the front of their cage/enclosure. It was AWESOME. We actually saw the wolves for the first time ever, and all the other animals that are usually sleeping or otherwise idle were very active. We even heard the lions roaring from the other side of the park. Did I mention we were also pretty much the only people in the park?
As it would go, this was another time where I didn't think to bring the camera. And the show we got in front of the Siberian tiger enclosure was PRICELESS. At one point, all 4 tigers were standing up on the ledge directly adjacent from Preston. One of the few times I've regretted not having a decent phone. Still, you can get the idea:

It is also worth mentioning that during this encounter, Preston was more engrossed by the flies buzzing around the tigers' heads, than he was with the actual tigers. He kept pointing to flies and saying buzz....

  1. AWESOME!! I have also wondered why it is they feed the animals right before closing time, because I have also happened to catch it, and it is clearly the best time to be there! WHY, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, WHY?
